Electric-car subsidy for private individuals
From 2026 the German government is supporting the switch to electric cars with up to €6,000 — income-based, with a family bonus. Autohaus Jansen guides you from the first question to the test drive.
The German government has launched a new funding programme for the private purchase of electric cars. Unlike the previous environmental bonus, it specifically targets households with low and medium incomes — and rewards families on top. At Autohaus Jansen in Lingen and Haselünne we have summarised the key points for you in plain language. Please note: the exact conditions are finalised by BAFA and the federal government; treat our figures as guidance, not legal or funding advice.

What the new subsidy means for you
Four reasons why switching from 2026 is especially worthwhile for many Emsland households.
Up to €6,000 grant
Fully electric cars can attract a purchase grant of €3,000 to €6,000 depending on household income. Plug-in hybrids and range-extender vehicles are funded with up to €4,500.
Families get priority
There is a family bonus of €500 per child (up to €1,000). The income threshold also rises with each child, so more families qualify.
For low & medium incomes
Households with lower taxable income receive the full grant. The ceiling is generally €80,000 — higher if you have children.
Buy or lease a new car
Both the purchase and leasing of brand-new vehicles first registered in Germany are funded — exactly the KIA, Ford and BYD models we have ready for you.

Frequently asked questions about the EV subsidy
The most important answers — short, honest and tailored to Autohaus Jansen.
Private individuals buying or leasing a brand-new, Germany-registered electric, plug-in hybrid or range-extender vehicle of class M1 (passenger car) for the first time. The taxable household income is decisive.
In principle the limit is around €80,000 taxable household income. It rises by €5,000 per child under 18 (up to two children), so families with two children can qualify up to around €90,000. The average of your two most recent tax assessments is used.
Fully electric cars are set to receive €3,000 to €6,000 depending on income, plug-in hybrids and range-extenders €1,500 to €4,500. On top comes the family bonus of €500 per child (max. €1,000). We are happy to calculate your personal amount with you.
Vehicles first registered after 1 January 2026 are eligible. Applications via the BAFA portal are expected to start on 19 May 2026, backdated to the registration date. The programme runs until 2029.
Yes, but with conditions: in the first phase plug-in hybrids and range-extenders must either emit under 60 g CO₂/km or offer an electric range of at least 80 km. We will tell you which of our models meet the criteria.
We advise you honestly on which funded model suits your everyday life and budget, check the eligibility requirements with you, arrange a test drive and handle the purchase or lease and registration — so you can claim the subsidy smoothly.
